The fitness room on the second floor at the Greene County Community Center will be closed Thursday, Sept. 4 through Tuesday, Sept. 8, for the installation of a new Everlast rubber floor. The floor will replace the original 1999 carpet.
Jefferson park and recreation department director Vicky Lautner explained that Everlast flooring is found in many fitness centers. The biggest advantage to the rubber floor is easy maintenance, with a damp mop being all that is needed. The floor will also absorb some of the impact of dropped weights.
Excel Floor Covering of Jefferson, owned by Lance Swain, had the low bid on the flooring at $18,656.80. He will work over the Labor Day holiday to assure the installation is completed as promised.
Power Lift is providing a crew with floor jacks to move the weight and cardio equipment from the room out to the walking track for the installation. The equipment will not be available for patron use and use of the walking track may be limited. Lautner thanked Power Lift for its help with the project.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to have done for a long time. I think it will be very nice,” Lautner said. Funding is in the park and recreation department’s 2016 budget.
The gym will be open while the installation work is being done, with the exception of Monday, Sept. 7. The community center will be closed for Labor Day.
